DR. HEZRI ADNAN
Dr Hezri Adnan is the Executive Director of the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research. Before joining the Institute, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA, a statutory body under the Ministry of Finance) and Chairman of a number of its tourism business subsidiaries.
He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Malaya and previously at the Universiti Tenaga Nasional and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Dr Hezri has also held visiting positions abroad at Kyoto University and the Australian National University. The latter is his alma mater, where he obtained his PhD in Public Policy in 2006. Hezri was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in 2016. Dr Hezri has also served as a Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS).
Dr Hezri specialises in sustainable development solutions with work spanning areas such as the green economy and natural resources governance. He has consulted for international organisations such as UNDP, UNESCAP, UNICEF, UNRISD and the World Bank on many issues related to the development and ESG investing challenges in the developing world. From 2015 to 2018, Hezri served as a Member of the United Nations’ International Resource Panel (IRP), a UN Environment Programme expert body that focuses on strategic issues of resource scarcity and efficiency.
His past and current advisory roles include Cleared Advisor for the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industries, Board Member of the Penang Green Council and a Member of the Advisory Council for WWF Malaysia.
Dr Hezri has authored more than 100 publications. His most recent book is “The Sustainability Shift: Refashioning Malaysia’s Future” and a report “An Overview Study of Water Food Energy Nexus in Malaysia”.

DR SHANKARAN NAMBIAR

Dr. Shankaran Nambiar is a senior research fellow and Head of Research at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). He has been engaged as a consultant for the Malaysian Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. He is also an active commentator on economic and geo-economic issues various news and media outlets such as Nikkei Asian Review and Jakarta Post.
DR SAIZI XIAO
Dr. Saizi Xiao is a Research Fellow at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). She obtained her PhD and MSc in Development Economics from University of Malaya and Adam Smith Business School of Glasgow University, respectively. She has been leading or engaged in research and consulting projects for international organisations such as UNDP, OIC, and ASEAN Secretariat.
ELAYNE YEE SIEW LIN
Ms. Elayne Yee Siew Lin is the Assistant Director at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). She previously served as a Research Fellow attached to the Economic Policy Studies Division at the Institute. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brock University in Canada.

NUR AZMILA AWANG
Nur Azmila is currently a research officer at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research. She is experienced in data mining and logging for the purpose of Input-Output analysis. She a degree in Bachelor of Statistics from Universiti Institut Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and has conducted many policy impact studies for MIER’s clients over the past five years.
SITI SYAMILA AMIR HAMZAH
Siti Syamila is currently a research officer at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research. She holds a degree in Bachelor of Statistics from Universiti Institut Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and is skilled in data mining and logging for Input-Output analysis. She has conducted many strategic development studies for MIER’s many clients over the years.
