Research Fellow

Dr. Saizi Xiao is a Research Fellow at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). She obtained her PhD and MSc in Development Economics from University of Malaya and Adam Smith Business School of Glasgow University, UK respectively.

Her research interests include development economics, labor economics, experimental economics, gender studies and digital economy related topics in the context of East Asian (especially China) and Southeast Asian (especially Malaysia) countries.

She has been leading or engaged in research and consulting projects for international organisations such as UNDP, OIC, ASEAN Secretariat; also for various Malaysian government agencies such as Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, Ministry of Women, Family & Community Development Malaysia, and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

She has published many economics papers in well-known economic journals such as Journal of Policy Modelling, Asian Development Review, China Economic Review, Feminist Economics, Structural Change and Economic Dynamics and so on. She also has attended advanced economic training programs for young economists granted by the World Bank, UNU-WIDER, UNICEF, and I.S.E.O. Institute lectured by three Nobel Laureates. Her research findings have been presented at national/international conferences in Malaysia, China, Switzerland, Singapore, Russia, Qatar, Australia, Italy, South Korea and South Africa.
